Study Communication at A&M-San Antonio

The Communication Program will provide you a broad  understanding of  the study of mass communication institutions, processes, research methods, and analysis. The study of communication will equip you to understand and evaluate the role of communication  as a set of principles and strategies for  understanding relationships, exercising  individual and collective  rights,  the skills to enact  effective problem solving, team building , and conflict resolution  methods  to become  effective citizens  and lifelong learners. 

The bachelor’s degree in Communication is designed to offer you a flexible plan of study to develop critical thinking abilities in the fast-changing world of communication, become capable and ethical communicators in various contexts, and utilize your knowledge and skills to promote media literacy and implement professional and responsible journalistic storytelling strategies.

DISTINCTIONS
Our students annually earn regional and national distinction, competing for and winning awards, scholarships, grants, and professional development opportunities. Since the launch of the academic program in 2010, our students have received scholarships from the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), Google, the Online News Association (ONA), the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), the San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists (SAAHJ), the San Antonio Professional Chapter of Women in Communications, as well as awards from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA), the Mark of Excellence Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), an Emmy from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and admission to the Boston University Graduate College of Communication, and the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
