On-Campus Living

First-Year Student Live-On Requirement

Student Housing on campus consists of Esperanza Hall and Estrella Hall (scheduled to open in August 2024).

"Living on campus clearly and profoundly impacts student persistence and engagement. Regardless of important factors like race, parental education, and finances, students who live on campus are more likely to engage in academic activities relative to their off-campus peers, and these activities, in turn, affect retention rates, academic engagement, and feelings of belonging to the university community." (ACUHO-I, 2021)

First-year students whose permanent address is more than 50 miles away must live on campus. Students living within 50 miles of the university may submit a request for exemption from the first-year live-on requirement. The request does not automatically exempt the student from being required to live on campus. Students who graduate from high school immediately before beginning at the university, regardless of dual credit attendance at another institution, are considered first-year students despite their credit count and fall under the first-year live-on requirement.

New, Non-Continuing Students (new transfer students, international graduate students, first time at A&M-San Antonio but not a First-Year student) may also be housed on campus.

To be eligible for housing, all first-year and new, non-continuing students must:

  • be admitted to A&M-San Antonio,
  • submit a housing application,
  • paid a $200 prepayment fee (through Marketplace)
  • be registered full-time by July 31, 2024
    • 12+ hours for undergraduate students and 6+ hours for graduate students
    • After this date, spaces may be opened to other students. Unregistered/under-registered students will be moved onto a waitlist until their registration commitments are fulfilled. Housing is not guaranteed for those who are waitlisted.

On-campus housing is not guaranteed until the student and the University sign the lease contract and fully execute the agreement.

Residential Meal Plan Information

All students living in on-campus housing are required to have a meal plan. In very rare cases, an exemption may be granted. Understand that signing a lease with Student Housing contractually binds you to have a meal plan at the designated amount already determined. There is no all-you-can-eat option; all meals are a la carte on campus.
