Communications Internships

Communication internships are semester apprenticeships integrating theory and practice related to the major in a professional setting and supervised by professionals in the students’ areas of study.

Students are invited to schedule an appointment with a faculty advisor in the department to apply for course credit. Ways we can help:

  • Identify internship possibilities
  • Assist with resume and portfolio development
  • Provide alumni portfolio samples

Faculty advisers maintain strong ties with industry leaders in the Austin, San Antonio, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Houston areas, and smaller markets throughout South Texas. We offer assistance and encouragement to apply for national and international internships and fellowships.

Univision Internship Testimonial

I chose this opportunity because Univision allowed me to focus on my studies and gain a clear view of what is expected of me professionally. In this internship, everything is hands-on; I was able to spend full days in the control room, assignment desk and working newsroom. The behind the scenes experience taught me how much work goes into informing our viewers. In the months I was an intern, I felt I learned years worth of experience. I was able to strive for the knowledge I'll need in tomorrow's workforce, and possibly land a job with a Univision affiliate once I graduate.
