According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, “Sexual violence is any type of unwanted sexual contact, including words and actions of a sexual nature against a person’s will and without their consent.”  If you think that you may have been sexually assaulted, there are options, and help is available. One of the most important actions to take following a sexual assault is to connect to supportive resources. 

Did you know that:

• Prompt medical attention may prevent unwanted pregnancy, as well as Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) and hidden physical injuries, 
• Individuals who have been assaulted have the option to collect any clothing or bedding involved in the incident and place it in separate paper bags for use in the future should they decide to press charges (Individuals may also take these items with them when they seek medical attention), and
• The Sexual Assault Forensics Kit is most effective within 96 hours of an incident. To preserve evidence, it is important not to bathe or shower prior to seeking medical attention.

As a student, you have the option to report sexual assault to campus authorities. Reporting of sexual assaults can be made to any of the following offices:

Students seeking emotional support as a result of recently experiencing sexual assault and harassment can utilize the confidential services provided by the Student Counseling Center by calling (210) 784-1331 any time Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, to be scheduled for a same-day appointment with a licensed clinician.

A&M-San Antonio is committed to protecting the privacy of all students involved in allegations of sexual misconduct. University staff and faculty, other than Student Counseling Center staff, have an obligation to report incidents of sexual misconduct to the Title IX Coordinator so that the college can fulfill its duty to investigate the incident and prevent it from recurring. The name of the individual bringing charges of sexual misconduct will not be disclosed to anyone who is not directly involved in the incident or investigation or who does not have a legitimate need to know. Reporting sexual misconduct may be anonymous. The University has provided a confidential way to report incidents of sexual misconduct; reporting is available online through CARE Referrals.
