Mental Health Ally Project

The Mental Health Ally project is a Texas A&M San Antonio program to facilitate conversations about mental health with college students. Increasing mental health awareness on campus can ensure that students can become knowledgeable of the resources to meet their needs, support their continued development while enrolled, and create an environment where students feel confident to discuss their mental health concerns together. The goal is to empower our students to continue the conversation about mental health in their classes and organizations.

Become a Mental Health Ally

There are many ways to become a mental health ally on campus. Attending events that help you learn about mental health topics and become involved with your student organizations!

Attend a Suicide Prevention (QPR) Training:

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, Refer and is a suicide prevention training that can help students arm themselves with the tools they need to look for warning signs of a suicidal crisis and how to respond

Join Active Minds:

Active Mind is a club that raises awareness and educates students about mental health. We aim to create a safe space where students are valued and are able to share their thoughts with others. Active Minds is not counseling or group therapy, and we recommend all students in crisis seek help from the Student Counseling Center.

Conversations with your Student Org:

How does talking about mental health change from organization to organization? People look at mental health with different experiences, and sharing those experiences better informs how you handle mental health.

Mental Health First Aid Training:

Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training course that teaches participants about mental health and substance-use issues. It covers topics like depression, anxiety, and trauma, as well as teaching skills and interventions needed in a variety of situations. Join a day-long training hosted by our Department of Counseling!
