Program Overview

The Master of Science in Finance program (12-Month MSF) is to prepare students for executive and technical positions in Finance with the knowledge and skills required by business, government, and non-profit organizations. The MSF program requires a student to complete 35 semester credit hours which includes a Study Abroad International Business and Cultural Experience. The program is conducted as a cohort of students who take each course together throughout the year.

Program Curriculum

Students are required to take 21 hours of required core courses, 9 hours of elective courses, a 3 hour international business & cultural experience, and 2 hours of professional development modules, for a total of 35 hours. For the elective courses, a student can take any of the courses not in the required core courses that they have taken, or an approved graduate course in finance and related areas.

12-Month MSF Admission Requirements

The 12-Month MSF applicants must submit (1) curriculum vitae or resume, (2) one-page essay on the student’s aspirations and the reason the student wants to complete the MSF program, (3) one letter of recommendation, (4) transcripts from each degree awarding institution.

  1. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a GPA equal to or greater than 2.6 overall or greater than 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours. The Bachelor’s degree must be in business, engineering, the sciences, or other quantitative discipline.
  2. Texas A&M University-San Antonio Graduate Record Exam (GRE) with a minimum score of 298. (GRE code 6712)

    Texas A&M University-San Antonio Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) with a minimum score of 450. (GMAT code: 7B7-9D-05)
  1. International applicants must have completed a 4-year bachelor’s program and must submit a satisfactory GMAT and a satisfactory TOEFL score to be considered for admission.

*For students entering in Fall 2024, the GRE/GMAT requirement is waived.*

[1]: The alternate course for FINC 5395 Travel Abroad: International Business and Cultural Experience will be FINC 5397 Global Financial Markets. If the student(s) opt out of FINC 5395 Travel Abroad: International Business and Cultural Experience, they will take FINC 5397 Global Financial Markets which will extend the course through the two weeks they would otherwise have spent traveling abroad. FINC 5397 Global Financial Markets covers topics like international business culture, financial markets, foreign corporate affairs, and business strategies.
