College of Arts and Sciences

The study abroad/away programming for the College of Arts and Sciences is designed to provide undergraduate students with a unique opportunity to gain valuable academic and cultural experiences by studying in a foreign country. Study abroad/away courses are open to all students, regardless of major, and are intended to complement their coursework by offering opportunities for cross-cultural learning, language immersion, and exposure to diverse perspectives. The objectives of the Study Abroad/Away Program for the College of Arts and Sciences are: • To provide students with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of their academic field within a global context. • To enable students to enhance their language proficiency and cultural competency by studying in a foreign country. • To facilitate cross-cultural learning and broaden students' perspectives through engagement with local communities and cultures. • To develop students' independence, adaptability, and resilience by challenging them to navigate unfamiliar cultural and academic environments. • To foster personal and professional growth by promoting self-reflection, intercultural communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a diverse and dynamic global environment. The program offers a range of study abroad/away options, including short-term faculty-led courses in the summer and winter, as well as research opportunities, and service-learning/experiential-learning experiences. Through these programs, students can expand their academic and personal horizons while gaining skills and experiences that will benefit them in their future academic and career pursuits.
