Request an Introduction to the Writing Center

One of the best ways to introduce your students to the Writing Center is to invite a tutor to your class! We provide both a five-minute and a twenty-minute introduction to the Writing Center. All students will receive a bookmark with our hours during these presentations. 

Five-Minute Introduction to the Writing Center 

This 5-8 minute presentation is a concise introduction to the Writing Center. During this presentation, a tutor will provide a brief explanation of why visiting the Writing Center can be beneficial, an introduction to the peer-tutoring model we employ during sessions, an overview of the types of writing support we offer, and instructions for making an appointment. Upon completion of this presentation, students will know the following:

  • Why the Writing Center is beneficial
  • What will happen during their session
  • When they can visit the Writing Center for support
  • How to Make an Appointment
  • Twenty-Minute Introduction to the Writing Center 

This 20-25 minute presentation provides an extended introduction to the Writing Center. During this presentation, a tutor will provide a short explanation of why visiting the Writing Center can be beneficial, an introduction to the peer-tutoring model we employ during sessions, an overview of the types of writing support we offer, and instructions for making an appointment. Additionally, this presentation includes an overview of the writing process. As we discuss each stage of the writing process, we discuss in more depth how the Writing Center supports student writing. This presentation also includes sample scenarios that provide a more detailed summary of the relationship between the Writing Center and the writing process. Upon completion of this presentation, students will know the following:

  • Why the Writing Center is beneficial
  • What will happen during their session
  • When they can visit the Writing Center for support
  • How to Make an Appointment
  • What stages are in the writing process
  • How the Writing Center supports each stage of the writing process
