The Office of Student Life sponsored the first Catalyst session at Texas A&M University-San Antonio on April 1, 2023. Catalyst is a one-day program hosted by LeaderShape. Participants focus on learning to develop an authentic path, connect to groups and causes they care about, and commit to a plan to be a catalyst for themselves and their groups.

40 Texas A&M University-San Antonio students could participate in the program, and many student-parents could take advantage of free childcare provided by the Campus Cares Team. Students were placed into small groups, called family clusters, and led by LeaderShape facilitator Angel Garcia.

Clarissa Siqueiros first-year student participant, said, “Catalyst was a great opportunity where I got to learn new things about myself and how to become a better communicator, listener, and leader. As well as meeting so many new people.”

Two Institute Alumni of the 2022 session attended Catalyst as first-time participants and programmers.

“I participated in the Leadershape Institute last year, as we were the first class to go off campus and not familiar surroundings. After the Institute finished, I was shown new possibilities and so many new people to connect with. Now that I have had the chance to participate in Catalyst, it was a great one-day experience. I would recommend it to everyone. Catalyst opened my eyes to my inner self and made me even more comfortable when talking in new settings. I hope everyone can attend Catalyst or the Leadershape Institute.” - Julie Ledezma, Sophomore.

“As an alum of the Leadershape Institute, I was very excited to see the difference and experience I would receive from Catalyst compared to the Institute. It was very interesting to see the similarities and differences between the two programs. I think Catalyst made me see what I can do and how I can continue growing professionally and personally. This program is a wonderful opportunity for everyone! I can’t wait to see the 2023 participants more active around campus!” - Gabby Villegas, Senior.
