Texas A&M University-San Antonio Campus Activities Board (CAB) has fulfilled its role in providing Jaguar Students with fun and engaging events throughout the years.

Through various events such as our annual Fall Fest, Disglow Party, Karaoke Nights, and Movie Nights, CAB has strived to provide a unique experience for our campus community. Students have been able to engage face painters, balloon artists, poets, magicians, and so much more.

Despite the challenges we have faced over the past two years due to COVID-19, Campus Activities Board has kept our students their number one priority, which has made a significant difference on our campus. Every year, the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA) recognizes outstanding individuals and programming boards throughout the region for their achievements and innovation through an array of awards.

The National Association for Campus Activities empowers members to amplify the campus experience through inclusive learning, meaningful connections, and engaging entertainment that transforms college communities.

A&M-SA Campus Activities Board was awarded Best Community Program Award for Fall Fest 2021. This is awarded to the program that best incorporates the local, off-campus community as a benefactor, sponsor, or collaborator.

Jarrick Brown, Assistant Director of Student Involvement – Programming, was awarded The Markley Award and NACA Central Outstanding Advisor of the Year Award. The Markley Award is given to one member of NACA® Central who contributes most to the growth and development of campus activities and/or the entertainment industry within the region. NACA Central Outstanding Advisor of the Year Award is given to a professional staff member from a NACA member institution; this award is based on student and colleague nominations.

When interviewed, Brown said, “It felt like an honor to know that students submitted my name and wrote letters about me. You never know how you impact students until something like that. It definitely opened my eyes, and I know I need to keep doing this work and be there for students.”

CAB Director, Seth Maldonado, was also selected for the NACA Live Stage Crew (national committee) for the national conference this February in Kansas City, Missouri. The NACA® Live Stage Crew actively supports the load-in, load-out, sound checks, and performance components for all the acts that will appear on the showcase stage at NACA® Live.

When asked why Maldonado, a junior studying computer information systems, wanted to join the Live Stage Crew, he said, “I like new experiences and trying things out. This experience with new people on a larger scale will help us here A&M-SA think about bigger events than we could even imagine.”

This year a new program called the CAB Collaboration was created and is open to all students and campus departments to apply. This CAB Collab establishes a partnership for any programming you would like to host. CAB can provide their expertise in various things such as marketing, logos, or even a monetary donation. To be considered for a CAB Collab, your event must be open to all students to create an inclusive environment and continue CAB’s mission.

The CAB team is always looking for bigger and better events to accommodate all Jaguar students. CAB Coordinator Joe Kamuntu said, “Students go to an event to have an experience… and we need to check all their boxes in every aspect.”
