On Saturday, October 2nd, A&M-SA hosted its 3rd Annual Cisneros Student Leadership Conference. This year’s theme was Leaning In: Self-Care and Resiliency. The conference’s goal was to provide students with strategies on self-care, pushing through difficulties, and navigating relationships. All students received Texas A&M University-SA and community-wide resources.

The conference started with an opening keynote by Jewel High, Transformational Speaker, and Laughter Coach. She walked through steps students can take to take care of themselves and practice self-care.  Through laughing exercises led by Jewel, students started the day ready to learn with an open mind. After attending a 50-minute session led by campus and community partners, students attended a Q&A lunch session with three student leaders who talked about their experiences on how they support each other across different identities and experiences.

“I will take care of myself more with the techniques I learned during the conference, and I will find ways of making homework more fun so that I can be more joyful. I will also work on getting more involved on campus,” said a student attending. The closing Q&A session with Dr. Cisneros, moderated by Dr. Matson, provided the students with an insight into how Dr. Cisneros embraces a growth mindset amidst challenges, providing students with tangible examples they can apply in their everyday life.
