As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Heritage Committee invited Laurie Ann Guerrero, the Writer-in-Residence at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, to proforma reading, have a Q&A, and sign her book. " I Have Eaten the Rattlesnake; New and Selected Poems."
Guerro also teaches classes on literature and creative writing in the Language, Literature, and Arts Department. In 2014, Guerrero was appointed by the former mayor of San Antonio, Julian Castro, Poet Laureate of San Antonio. In May of 2015, Guerrero was selected as the 2016 Poet Laureate of the State of Texas by the 84th legislature of Texas. Guerrero holds a B.A. in English Language & Literature from Smith College and an MFA in poetry from Drew University.
