The Campus Prevention Network Seal of Prevention™ recognized Texas A&M- San Antonio’s Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Prevention Committee for its commitment to high-impact digital prevention programs. Fewer than 15% of colleges and universities earn this distinction every year.

EVERFI, the company behind the seal, evaluates each universities quality digital programming aligned with high-impact and evidence-based prevention principles, including socio-cultural relevance, evaluated and varied outcomes, and creating positive engagement within their community.  These campus programs have been proven to impact student retention, belonging, academic success positively, and, increasingly, enrollment as students evaluate institutions on their approach to safety, well-being, and inclusion.

The mission of The Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Prevention Committee is to educate and promote awareness of alcohol and drug misuse through innovative programming, education on personal responsibility and risk-reducing behaviors, and connection to resources for the campus community.

Shahla Nadem-Mollaei, Chair of the AOD Prevention Committee since 2018, said she is “proud of the committee’s work in education and awareness of alcohol and drug misuse and abuse. We are always finding new and innovative ways to educate our student population.” Education programming includes the late-night alternative event series called Jaguar First Fridays. A social norms campaign was created, along with a Jaguar Pledge, with the slogan “Jaguars Step In. Speak Up Support.” This Campaign focuses on education for students if they choose to drink, such as using safe behaviors and bystander intervention. This education is seen around campus through banners, Social Media Posts, and Elevator Wraps within Esperanza Hall. Also, Tye-dye pledge t-shirts were handed out at Presidents Picnic for the past three years.
