Mariachis and Cake Cutting - Mexico This event showcases one expression of Mexican culture - Mariachi music. Mariachi is a Mexican tradition that dates back to the 19thcentury. Featuring musicians who play violin, vihuela, guitar, guitarrón, trumpet, and the harp, the group traditionally wears charro attire. The Mariachi ensemble will perform in the cafeteria for the students. |

In Colombia, annually, there is a kite flying festival around August. It is called the Wind and Kite Festival, people from all over the world travel to Villa de Leyva for the 2 day Kite flying festival. The main objective of this event is to familiarize the students with the festival and have them make kites and, if weather permit, fly them outside. This would be great for the University because it shows the students having fun and possibly a contest to see who can make the best kite! |

Off-Campus Trip |
Heritage Trip - Mission Exploration (Spanish) Through the exploration of the missions in San Antonio, students will have the opportunity to learn about how the Spaniards colonized the indigenous peoples of Texas. This bus trip will give 30 students (if the demand is high we can look at getting a bigger bus) the opportunity to personally visit the Spanish mission and learn more from a certified tour guide. $10 security deposit and will be returned to the student upon participation in the event. Lunch will also be provided. |

Samba Vida’s energetic dancing and LIVE drumming will give your guest an exciting and fun experience with a Carnaval style show. Samba is a lively, rhythmical dance of Afro-Brazilian origin in 2/4 (2 by 4) time danced to Samba music whose origins include the Maxie. Samba is a dance black/African people in Brazil who brought much of their music and dance culture into Latin America with them upon arrival into many Latin American countries. This will be the finale of A&M-SA LatinX Heritage Month. |
