Dr. Mari Fuentes-Martin (likes to be referred to as Mari) began her role as Vice President  for Student Success & Engagement at Texas A&M San Antonio in January 2020. She comes to us with 28 years of experience in higher education, serving the last 20 years as an Associate Vice President and Dean of Students at various institutions. She began her career at her alma mater, the University of Notre Dame, working in alumni affairs and student affairs. She has worked at Texas A&M Corpus Christi for 6.5 years where she also earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership.

As a native of Weslaco, she happily returned to the Rio Grande Valley to work at the University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College which was both a community college and comprehensive university for over 12 years. She became the AVP/Dean of Students at UT Pan American at the time the UT Board of Regents announced the establishment of a new university, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, which combined UT Brownsville, UT Pan American and the UT Health Science Center regional campus in Harlingen into one institutional structure. She served as the founding AVP/Dean of Students for UTRGV before taking the same position at Louisiana State University in 2015. A&M SA is her first role as Vice President and is happy to return to South Texas to support the infrastructure and growth of Student Success & Engagement to help students meet their personal and academic goals. On a personal note, Mari is the oldest of four sibling and a large close knit family. She is married to Randy Martin, a retired and active police officer. They have three sons: Jacob and Zachary (twins) and Michael.
