Launching for the 2024-2025 academic year, the Jaguar Promise program provides free tuition and fees, book stipends to eligible first-year and transfer students.

San Antonio — Texas A&M University-San Antonio is taking a pioneering step to make higher education more accessible and affordable for students throughout the state of Texas.

As the fastest-growing university in the A&M System, A&M-San Antonio now serves nearly 7,800 students, the largest enrollment in the University’s history. The University’s student body is approximately 77 percent Hispanic, and 72 percent are first-generation students. As A&M-San Antonio continues to grow and evolve, the University is excited to announce the new Jaguar Promise program, which expands upon the University’s Achiever Promise program.

“Affordability is paramount to the Texas A&M System, and A&M-San Antonio’s new promise program is one of the most comprehensive promise programs in the state,” said Chancellor John Sharp. “This will be a game-changer for students from across the region who aspire to a four-year degree.”

Building upon the Achiever Promise program, which covered the top 10% of high school seniors, Jaguar Promise casts a wider net to serve even more students across the entire state of Texas. Eligibility requirements have been expanded to include:

• Students graduating within the top 10% of their high school class
• The top 11% to 35% of seniors graduating from a Texas high school with a family adjusted gross income of $70,000 or less
• Students graduating from an Early College High School with at least 30 credit hours.
• Transfer students with an associate degree or 60 credit hours who have a family adjusted gross income of $70,000 or less

“This transformational new program expands accessibility for students,” said Vice President of Enrollment Management Brandy McLelland. “It offers Texas residents the opportunity to attain a four-year degree with little or no cost.”

The Jaguar Promise program provides pathways for first-time-college students entering the University directly from high school, including those who have graduated from an Early College High School with at least 30 credit hours. The program also provides opportunities for students who have worked hard to earn an associate degree or who have at least 60 credit hours. These transfer students can now also get the benefit of free tuition and fees, as well as book stipends to continue their education and attain a four-year degree.

“This is an exciting time at A&M-San Antonio,” said University President Salvador Hector Ochoa. “As we move forward, it’s important that we fulfill our promise to students, who will always be our north star. This special program is a powerful tool that helps us do just that. The Jaguar Promise establishes A&M-San Antonio as the place where ambition meets access.”

The Jaguar Promise program is available to students beginning classes at A&M-San Antonio in fall 2024.
