A&M-SA receives nearly $5 million in gifts for FY2022

SAN ANTONIO — 2021-2022 showed 65 percent growth in giving to Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-SA) over the previous year, indicative of the thriving support from partners in the San Antonio community and regionally. With a sum of $4,806,320 in gifts to the University, more than $2.3 million was specifically for student scholarships. A total of 618 gifts were given to the University, and fiscal year 2022 was the second-highest giving year ever for A&M-San Antonio.   

“We are deeply grateful for the generous support of alumni, friends, foundations and corporations who believe in the work we are doing enough to invest and partner with us philanthropically,” said A&M-San Antonio President Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson.  

2022 giving included two gifts of over a million dollars, including contributions from the Hector and Gloria López Foundation and USAA. In July, the López Foundation announced a $2.1 million grant to the Texas A&M-San Antonio Foundation to assist 15 Latino students, who are known as López Scholars, with tuition and fees as well as wraparound support services. A $1 million grant from USAA in February helped launch a multi-year program, the La Familia project, to assist first-generation college students and their families in navigating the admission process at A&M-SA.

“I am humbled and inspired by the way that our friends in the community have embraced our students and invested in our mission,” said Vice President for University Relations and Advancement Jesse Pisors. “The rapidly growing depth and breath of philanthropic support that A&M-San Antonio is receiving is evidence of the impact we are having and the goodwill and generosity of our alumni, friends and organizational partners.”

Some additional major donors for fiscal year 2022 included the Kronkosky Foundation, Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio, San Antonio Bowl Association, Myra Stafford Pryor Charitable Trust, Charles Butt Foundation, and P16Plus.

“It is only because of the collaboration across campus with the University Advancement team that gifts and partnerships like these are possible” said Executive Director of Advancement John Sanchez. “When we can match philanthropic organizations to innovative programs and incredible students, it is a win-win for everyone involved.”

Additional fundraising accomplishments from fiscal year 2022:

• Alumni giving participation increased 233 percent.
• Four new endowments were created: Marmon Mok Endowed Scholarship, William & Patricia Gordon Scholarship, TX APWA Scholarship, and Greg Garcia Scholarship.
• The 2021 Dream Maker virtual luncheon grossed $215,000, a seven percent increase from 2019.
• A&M-SA had its first alum leave a planned gift to the Texas A&M-San Antonio Foundation.
• Giving Tuesday garnered an outpouring of support for students with $37,000 raised, a 30 percent increase from 2020.
• Donors generously supported General’s Store, the University’s food pantry, providing hundreds of pounds of food for students, their families and the community by funding 40,500 meals.
