EsportsA&M-SA has been selected as one of five colleges to receive six new gaming PCs.

SAN ANTONIO –

Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-SA) is one of five colleges/universities to be selected for Generation Esports’ 2022 Learn and Build STEAM (LABS) program. As winners, A&M-SA’s Esports Program receives six gaming computers; all necessary peripherals, such as keyboards, mice and headsets; and two esports coaching certifications for educators. A&M-SA will host Generation Esports on campus later in the fall semester to collaborate in building the new gaming PCs.

“Receiving these six gaming stations is an incredible boon for our program – we will continue to succeed at the highest levels of collegiate esports and create great content for our community,” said Aaron Jaggers, A&M-SA head esports coach. “Six additional gaming stations empower TAMUSA Esports to host events at the collegiate level, for local high schools, and our community at large.”

With support from Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD), the LABS program supplies 25 esports labs to middle schools, high schools and colleges across the continental United States to help integrate esports into their communities, providing opportunities for their students and educators.

Generation Esports is a nonprofit dedicated to building community through gaming, education and charity. Since 2012, Generation Esports has grown to more than 200,000 registered users and over 5,000 partner schools - becoming one of the largest platforms for gamers. The organization runs the largest league for high school esports and are rapidly growing middle school and college leagues. Generation Esports also provides scholarships to students.

A&M-SA’s Department of Recreational Sports introduced varsity esports to campus in the spring of 2020. The Esports Program is designed to promote gaming as a beneficial activity for students in the University community and beyond. The mission of A&M-SA’s esports is to create a supportive gaming community at the University that operates at the highest standards through competition and service. With dedicated staff and facilities, the program upholds the institution's education values while encouraging personal and academic growth of student gamers.
