A&M San Antonio to hold check presentation celebrating two Frost Bank grants to support recreation center on campus 

SAN ANTONIO – Frost Bank has directed two grants totaling $100,000 to support the Texas A&M-San Antonio (A&M-San Antonio) Foundation. The funds will go toward the “Building Champions” capital campaign to support a recreation center for A&M-San Antonio Athletics. The first is a $75,000 grant from the Myra Stafford Pryor Charitable Trust, Frost Bank, Trustee, to be paid in $15,000 annual installments from 2021-2025. The second grant is from the Frost Bank Charitable Foundation and will be paid in $5,000 installments starting in 2022 and ending in 2026. 

At 9 a.m. on Monday, May 2, an official check presentation will be held on the A&M-San Antonio campus in the Auditorium. Speakers will include Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson, president of Texas A&M University-San Antonio; Candace Wolfshohl, group executive vice president of Culture and People Development at Frost and a graduate of Texas A&M University; Darnell Smith, Texas A&M University–San Antonio athletics director; and current A&M-San Antonio student-athletes. Dan Geddes, Frost’s San Antonio regional president, will also be in attendance. 

“Frost has supported Texas A&M-San Antonio since even before the campus was opened, and this gift not only reflects that historic support but shows our commitment to the Jaguars into the future,” said Pat Frost, president of Frost Bank. “It’s the same commitment we have made to our communities for more than 150 years.”  

Both grants will support the construction and equipping of a future recreation center on the A&M -San Antonio campus. 

“The recreation center means our students and student-athletes have a place to enhance and increase sports performance and to focus on their wholistic wellness. It’s a game changer for our Athletics program and the University,” said Smith. “The gift from Frost will help our student athletes and sports program level the playing field competitively and from a health and wellness perspective, positively affecting the Athletics Department in a way that allows us to compete for championships, elevate school spirit, and build community along the way.”
