Dr. Porter, an author and avid researcher of colonial America and women’s history, celebrates this honor with nine other faculty members throughout the A&M System.

“Because of the hard work our faculty put into preparing teachers for the classroom, the Texas A&M System is known throughout the country for producing some of the best teachers,” John Sharp, Chancellor of the Texas A&M System said. “Through the Academy, we recognize those who have worked tirelessly to ensure that students are equipped with the experience and knowledge necessary to become top-quality teachers themselves. I am proud to honor and welcome the latest inductees.”

Dr. Porter is an associate professor of History who’s gained widespread attention for her recent book, “Their Lives, Their Wills: Women in the Borderlands, 1750-1846.” Humanities and Social Sciences Department Chair Dr. Bill Bush says Dr. Porter mentors pre-service History and Social Studies teachers in and out of the classroom.

“Dr. Porter is a most deserving recipient of this award,” said Dr. Bush “Many of Dr. Porter’s former students are teaching in the San Antonio schools, a tangible marker of her excellence and dedication.”
This year’s induction will be in March 2016.
