Pausing at the end of 2013 to look forward to another great year

Dear friends,

Wow, what a wonderful semester!

This year has been full of celebration and achievements, thanks to our dedicated faculty and staff who commit their best every day, but especially because of our students, the heart of everything at Texas A&M-San Antonio. I want to personally congratulate our Jaguars on another successful semester...we can't wait for your return in the spring!

This past Tuesday was full of pride and joy as our graduates - our largest fall class yet - achieved their dreams at commencement. Texas A&M-San Antonio was honored to have State Representative Dan Branch, the chairman of the House Committee on Higher Education, serve as our commencement speaker. Regent Charles W. Schwartz and Vice Chancellor Emeritus of the Texas A&M University System Stanton C. Calvert also joined us in the milestone celebration. Read more about our graduating class in the Southside Reporter (look for copies around town), and hear the voice of a current student whose education is making a better life for her and her family, from Fox San Antonio.

We were also honored to celebrate the season with the members of our President's Circle, our lead patrons in supporting higher education on Dec. 11. Faculty and staff celebrated the end of the semester and the start of the holiday season with a party at the downtown Educational & Cultural Arts Center, and we were also excited to learn that our University float won first place from the U.S. Military Veterans Parade Association at the Veterans Day 2013 Parade.

This year has been a time of blessings, growth and making dreams become reality and we look ahead to all the joy that 2014 is sure to bring, including the annual President's Report 2013, releasing just after the new year. I am so proud of the University's achievements but I believe the best is yet to come.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Dr. Maria Hernandez Ferrier
President, Texas A&M University-San Antonio
