Veteran affairs legislative hearing at Brooks City-Base Campus

The Brooks Development Authority hosted a joint hearing of the Texas House and Senate Veteran Affairs Committees at the Texas A&M-San Antonio Brooks City-Base Campus on Wednesday, November 20. The hearing examined military base closures, defense department cuts, and the recent government shutdown, and included State Senators Wendy Davis and Leticia Van De Putte, and Representative Jose Menendez. H-E-B sponsors a night of opportunities

The College of Business hosted their second annual career night sponsored by H-E-B on November 5. Nearly 250 business students attended career-building workshops with H-E-B representatives. Fifty students were chosen by faculty to attend a special invitation-only pre-event with the H-E-B recruiting team as well as Andy Russ, director of Operations for Planning & Analysis for Houston and Central Market; Tammy Hermann, director of Merchant Areas & Software Development Centers; and Myric Polhemus, director of Human Resources for the San Antonio west area. After two successful years, plans are already in place to expand next year's event to even more degree areas. A&M-San Antonio thanks H-E-B for a successful evening of student enrichment and opening doors to new career opportunities!

TAMU-SA part of new statewide education "time capsule"

Assistant Professor of Education Dr. Nancy Compean-Garcia's latest article was selected by the Texas Education Review (TxEd) for their inaugural publication, Time Capsule 2013, offering editorials written by academics, practitioners, policymakers and graduate students. Addressing the state of education today, her contribution is titled "Language Policy Insights: A New Hope for Educating Our Latino Population." University's largest student organization celebrates leadership and success

On Saturday, November 23, over 380 students will be inducted to The National Society of Leadership and Success, making it the largest student organization at TAMU-SA. Dr. Maria Hernandez Ferrier will deliver the keynote address to the inductees at the University's downtown Educational & Cultural Arts Center, and student leaders will present Chapter Awards to faculty and staff in recognition of outstanding contributions to the chapter, including an honorary membership to Graduate Student Hoyt Garner. Students Christopher Kichura and Nancy Jean Mendez will accept the distinguished National Excellence in Leadership Award. Congratulations to all the exemplary inductees!
